A new self-charging hybrid powertrain will make its debut on the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, before making its way to other models in the lineup. The Hybrid 136 e-DSC6 powertrain, which combines with an updated 1.2-litre petrol engine, benefits from 48v technology and an 898Wh battery. The new powertrain boasts a 15% improvement in WLTP fuel economy and reduced CO2 output.
The 136hp/230Nm 1.2-litre force-induced petrol engine utilises a variable vane turbocharger for improved efficiency and power delivery. Power is accessed via a new six-speed electronic double-clutch transmission with six forward gears. The system incorporates the electric motor that produces a further 16kW at peak power and 51Nm of torque. A regenerative braking system is able to recharge the hybrid powertrain’s 48V battery as well as supply the turnover power for the ICE.
In terms of the battery, the 48V unit uses lithium-ion technology and liquid cooling which are claimed to provide maximum efficiency due to minimal heat loss. The battery provides a maximum capacity of 898Wh and an available capacity of 432Wh. To ensure cabin and luggage space is not compromised, the battery has been packaged under the passenger seat.
Inside, the 3008 and 5008 will be fitted with an updated digital instrument panel with mode-specific colour-changing accents. Other mod-cons include the brand’s I-Cockpit, which is renowned for its connectivity and safety tech including Night Vision, Blind Spot Detection and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
Both the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 are available to order and can be configured entirely online for maximum convenience. Pricing starts at £34,130 for the 3008 Hybrid start and £38,095 for the 5008 Hybrid.
