UK orders open for Volkswagen’s first all-electric estate, the ID.7

Priced at £52,240 and initially available in Pro Match guise, Volkswagen will also offer ID.7 Tourer in Pro S and high-performance GTX versions, too – albeit a little later

We first broke the news of the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer back in February and now it’s finally available for order for UK customers. The ID.7 Tourer platform is an interesting concept as Volkswagen could have done the logical thing and created a Touareg EV using the ID.7 platform but electric SUVs – given their aerodynamics – are known for their poor efficiency and battery range. VW’s solution? A large estate that combines car-like dynamics and battery range with improved load and storage capacity.

Volkswagen’s first-ever battery electric estate vehicle goes on sale in the UK today and will initially be available in one variant – the ID.7 Tourer Pro Match – priced £52,240. The Pro S and a high-performance GTX version will be available for purchase in the summer. The estate boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.24, the result of which will boost its efficiency as a daily driver. As a result, the ID.7 Tourer Pro Match has a claimed range of 374 miles with a 77 kWh battery (it can be charged at up to 175 kW).

> ID.7 Tourer is VW’s clever SUV alternative

Those wanting a little more grunt will be happy to know the Pro S model will employ a larger 86 kWh battery with a projected range of about 425 miles and charging at up to 200 kW. The performance GTX version will utilise an all-wheel-drive system and 77 kWh battery.

Standard features are plentiful and include LED headlights and LED tail light clusters, roof rails and 19-inch alloy wheels. Interior space is naturally where the ID.7 Tourer excels with room for five people and provision of up to 605 litres of luggage. This figure grows to 1,714 litres with the rear seats folded down, which also boosts the load area to almost two meters in length.

The Director of Volkswagen UK, Rod McLeod, had the following to say: “Volkswagen now has a really comprehensive line-up of exceptional cars in the upper mid-sized class, which are perfect for both families and business customers. Early reviews of the ID.7 Tourer have been really positive, with the car’s comfort and space in particular receiving lots of praise – and that’s before you consider its impressive range. I can’t wait to see the ID.7 Tourer on our roads now that it is available to order in the UK.”
