The all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz, already having been named overall Car of the Year at the prestigious What Car? Awards, has now also been awarded the ‘Best Car of the Year’ at the 2023 British Motor Show awards.
The funky, function and retro minibus has been picking awards left, right, and centre ever since its introduction, and that has only generated all the more hype surrounding the reimagined icon. Has Volkswagen truly played a blinder here?
Meanwhile, the ID. Buzz Cargo named ‘Best Light Commercial Vehicle’ at the same ceremony, with the German automobile company’s new all-electric range being praised for impressive sustainability credentials, electric performance and iconic design.
The ID.Buzz was commended for its design aesthetic and sustainability credentials, while the ID.Buzz Cargo impressed the international judging panel with its strong electric performance and functionality.
To celebrate the prestigious accolade, the ID. Buzz will appear as a winner on the Best Cars of the Year stand at this month’s British Motor Show. Known for its driving experiences and displays, the Farnborough-based auto show runs from 17-20 August.

Commenting on the double victory, Mike Rutherford, Founder and Chair at the Best Cars of the Year Awards, said: “The 5-seat and Cargo versions of Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz are clear winners in their respective categories.
“The range is proof that an all-electric van can effectively combine style, sustainability, performance and practicality, making it an attractive choice in the commercial vehicle sector and beyond. Our international judging panel is proud that the ID. Buzz, as the overall winner of the Best Car of the Year title, is going to be front and centre on our stand in Hall 1 at The British Motor Show!”
Tom Macintyre, Head of Product Planning at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “Since the first concept for the ID. Buzz broke cover over 20 years ago, there has been growing excitement for this reincarnation of a classic. The reception it has received from the industry and our loyal fanbase has been nothing short of astonishing, and we’re delighted to receive such praise from The Best Cars of the Year and its esteemed panel for this, our first all-electric range.”
But not just award shows, the ID.Buzz has been praised by ev.tips too, receiving a 4 out 5 score, with it especially winning our hearts with the super retro-mod design and its bright, spacious and well-equipped interiors. And for quite a hefty vehicle, it handled pretty well too!
